Today is the Municipal Primary Election in the Commonwealth. Voters in the region will cast ballots for several local, city and county offices. A special election will also be held in Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District to fill the U.S. House vacancy following the resignation of former Representative Tom Marino (R) in January. Democrat Marc Friedenberg will face Republican State Representative Fred Keller for the seat. The 12th Congressional District includes portions of 15 counties in central and northern PA, including Mifflin, Juniata, Snyder, Perry, Union, and Centre Counties. President Trump paid a visit to the district, speaking on behalf of Keller last night in Montoursville.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health has declared an outbreak of hepatitis A, with Philadelphia and Pittsburgh the hardest-hit regions. The Commonwealth has reported 171 cases in 36 counties since January 2018. A vaccination, which is now commonly given to children, will prevent hepatitis A exposure. By declaring an outbreak, the state can tap into federal funds to get additional vaccines if needed. Contact 1-877-PA-HEALTH to find a state health center where you can be tested and monitored.
