A Lewistown man has been charged with aggravated assault and other crimes after an incident July 2nd in the borough.  Lewistown Police responded to a domestic disturbance at 517 East Walnut Street just after noon.  Police say 49-year-old Mark Albright refused to leave the residence after asking for money.  He attempted to strangle a 23-year-old female after a call was made to 911.  Police arrested Albright later at his residence.  He was placed in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility.

Landmark legislation that represents a big win for Pennsylvania National Guard members and their families was signed into law last week in Harrisburg. The new law offers a free college education for a Pennsylvania National Guard member as well as their spouse and children in exchange for a six-year reenlistment. The benefit can be used to attend any Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education school free, or for partial tuition benefits at other institutions of higher learning approved by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency.

Authorities say a known suspect entered a Huntingdon County residence on July 1st and took numerous items totaling nearly $7,000.  The burglary occurred on Ansell Road in Clay Township.  Items taken include an upright deep freeze, a Troy-Bilt Bronco riding mower, firearms, two chainsaws, a gas grill, and other items.

Governor Tom Wolf has vetoed a bill that would have exempted milk haulers from travel bans imposed during a declaration of disaster emergency, meaning dairies will have to dump milk and lose revenue when roads are closed.  The PA House and Senate passed House Bill 915 that would have allowed milk haulers to use their discretion when roads are otherwise closed for disaster emergencies like snowstorms. The governor vetoed that measure last week.  Several hundred farmers advocated for the measure as part of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau’s State Legislative Conference in March.
