The Mifflin County DUI Task Force will conduct impaired driving enforcement operations during the Independence Day weekend (July 3rd thru the 6th) as part of Operation Safe Holiday.  The operations will include sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols.  The task force is committed to reducing the number of impaired driving crashes, injuries, and fatalities in Mifflin County. The operations are part of the Pennsylvania High Visibility Enforcement Program.  Operation Safe Holiday runs thru Sunday, July 7th.

A Mount Union man was the victim of another theft by deception scam.  State Police say an unknown individual posed as a customer service rep for a hotel booking site called booking.com.  He told the victim to purchase and send Google Play and Ebay cards.  The man sent cards totaling $600.

Another reminder…a change for the refuse schedule in the Borough of Lewistown: the Thursday (July 4th) route will be picked up today (July 3rd) due to Independence Day.  All other days remain the same.  Thursday’s recycling customers should hold recycling until the next scheduled day.

With many Pennsylvanians hitting the road to celebrate Independence Day, PennDOT is encouraging motorists to “Know Before You Go.”  The public can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles in the Commonwealth by visiting www.511PA.com. While PennDOT will remove lane restrictions and suspend construction projects wherever possible, the “Holiday Travel Restrictions” page allows you to view interstate restrictions that will be in place during the holiday travel period.

Independence Day is Kids Day Dress-Up & Discover at the Pennsylvania Military Museum.  Kids of ALL ages are invited to play “dress up” with uniforms, gear and helmets from the Education Collection, while posing for pictures in a 1945 Willys Jeep.  Other discoveries may be explored throughout the galleries.  “Kids Day” is Thursday (July 4th), from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  The Pennsylvania Military Museum is located at 51 Boal Avenue in Boalsburg.
