Authorities are investigating a non-traffic-related death earlier this month in Juniata County.  State Police at Lewistown say the active investigation stems from the October 2nd death of an unidentified individual in Walker Township.

 

State House Republican lawmakers are calling on Governor Wolf to sign welfare reform legislation now on his desk to help control spending on state human services programs that are growing at a rate that outpaces available revenue. House Bill 59 would help contain costs for entitlement programs and includes reasonable reforms like work or job search requirements for able-bodied Medicaid recipients. House Republican leaders and a large number of rank and file members joined earlier this week in asking for the governor to sign the reform bill and not follow through on his threatened veto.

 

Today’s meeting of the Mifflin County Commissioners will be held at the Annex Building across the street from the main courthouse.  The meeting time remains 9:00 am.  The site is being moved because a large number of Vietnam veterans will be honored at the meeting and the regular meeting room will not accommodate the expected attendance.
