State Police at Newport arrested a woman on theft charges after a brief vehicle pursuit earlier this week.  Thirty-three-year-old Jennifer Miley is accused of stealing a Jeep Cherokee in Harrisburg September 14th.  Police say she abandoned the vehicle on Shermans Valley Road in Tyrone Township, Perry County before stealing a Hyundai Elantra from the same area.  Miley was spotted on Interstate 81 in Dauphin County on October 8th.  She was taken into custody when the car was disabled near the exit ramp for Route 322 West.  Miley was charged with theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced a REAL ID enforcement grace period through January 22nd, 2018.  The grace period went into effect on Wednesday (October 11th), and applies only to entrance to federal facilities.  There is no enforcement on commercial air travel until January 22nd.  PennDOT has begun work on the implementation of REAL ID, and estimates compliant driver licenses and identification cards will be available at the customer’s option in March 2019. That will allow ample time for customers who want a REAL ID product to get one before the final DHS effective date of October 1st, 2020.
