Authorities are continuing to investigate the death of a man found earlier this week in Carroll Township, Perry County.  State Police were contacted Monday in the death of a 49-year-old Shermans Dale man.  The victim had apparently been diagnosed with a medical condition and his health had recently declined.

State Representative Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) has introduced legislation requiring counseling for patients receiving Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) for addiction to drugs such as Methadone.  As House Policy Committee Chairman, Benninghoff held nearly a dozen statewide hearings on Pennsylvania’s heroin and opioid epidemic. Testimony at those hearings was unified on the importance of giving patients access to a complete continuum of care through medication and counseling.  Benninghoff’s legislation, House Bill 2130, directs the departments of Health, Human Services and Drug and Alcohol Programs to work together to establish guidelines for the use of MAT, of which counseling must be a component. It also outlines penalties for prescribers that do not verify their patients are receiving the required counseling before writing or filling prescriptions.

PennDOT has lifted the restrictions on certain commercial traffic on the southern section of Interstate 81.  The restriction was lifted yesterday for Interstate 81 between the Maryland line and Interstate 83 in Harrisburg.  The purpose of the restriction was to help ensure the interstate remained open during the winter storm. The restrictions remain in effect for I-81 north of Interstate 83 to the New York State line. The types of vehicles covered by the restriction includes large combination Vehicles (double trailers), trailers pulled by passenger vehicles, motorcycles, and recreational vehicles (RVs).
