Drowning is the second leading cause of injury-related death for children ages 1-19 in the U.S.   On average, about 1,000 children die each year due to unintentional drowning.  Whether you are headed to the pool or beach this summer, the American Trauma Society, Pennsylvania Division (ATSPA) wants to ensure your children are safe.  The ATSPA offers safety recommendations for activities in or near water.  Never swim alone; Actively supervise children; Teach children how to swim; Learn CPR; and Avoid the water during bad weather.  For more information on water safety, contact the ATSPA at 717-766-1616.

The Route 75 (Main Street) bridge in Juniata County reopened to traffic earlier this week.  The bridge had been under construction as part of the PennDOT’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Project.  The bridge spans Horse Valley Run Creek in Tuscarora Township. The new crossing is longer and wider than the one it replaced and is designed with a 100-year lifespan.
