A Middleburg man was arrested yesterday morning on Route 35 in Juniata County after fleeing and eluding authorities.  According to State Police, 42-year-old Curtis Kline was traveling 56 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone when a trooper attempted to stop his vehicle by activating emergency lights and sirens.  Kline fled at a high rate of speed but was apprehended in Fermanaugh Township.  Police say Kline was in possession of a controlled substance.  Charges were filed through District Court.


The lack of access to broadband is a major problem in rural communities across central Pennsylvania, and is negatively impacting local economies, educational opportunities, and health care treatment options.  Representative Kerry Benninghoff (R-Centre/Mifflin) together with Representatives Adam Harris (R-Franklin/Juniata/Mifflin) and Rich Irvin (R-Huntingdon/Centre/Mifflin) will hold a roundtable discussion on the topic.   The roundtable will be Thursday (July 12th) from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at the Mifflin County Annex Building, 101 West Third Street in Lewistown.


Borough Police arrested three people involved in a string of burglaries in Lewistown.  On July 5th, Police charged 18-year-old Malachi Blessing of Lewistown, along with two juveniles.  The suspects are accused of entering garages and sheds at three different locations at the rear of Third Street and taking tools, fishing rods, and a TV.  All stolen items have been recovered and returned to the owners.  Blessing was placed in the Mifflin County Correctional Facility on $100,000 bail.


The County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania (CCAP) Center for Excellence in County Leadership (CEL), a premier professional development program, recently graduated six county officials from its two and a half-day intensive training.  The 2018 graduates include Mifflin County Commissioner Rob Postal. CEL training focuses on fostering individual growth through interactive and high level classroom training aimed at improving participants’ communication, management and leadership skills.
