AccuWeather’s Chief Executive Officer has stepped down.  The announcement was made late last week by the world leader in weather-related data.  CEO Barry Lee Myers was nominated by President Trump to become the Undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere, and Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).  He was approved by the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee but his nomination did not receive Senate confirmation before the expiration of the 115th Congress.  His bid will require re-nomination by the President to advance to the current Congress.  Myers sold all of his interest in the company, along with its subsidiaries and affiliated companies, effective January 1st, 2019.

An attempted break-in was thwarted late last week in Huntingdon County.  According to State Police, someone tried to enter a residence on Bear Mountain Road in Shirley Township on January 3rd.  The would-be burglar tried to gain entry by destroying part of the victim’s front door, but failed and fled the scene.  Damage to the door is listed at about $100.

Pennsylvania dairy producers are invited to apply for the Dairy of Distinction award.  Applications must be submitted by April 15th.  The award is based on the concept that attractive farmsteads enhance consumer confidence in the wholesomeness of milk and stimulate milk sales and public support for the industry.  Dairies receiving the highest scores in each of 10 Pennsylvania districts will receive an 18-inch-by-24-inch Dairy of Distinction sign to display in front of their farm.  Roadside judging will take place in May and June.  Dairies can obtain an application by calling program secretary Ashley Hoover at 717-513-7284, or by visiting the program’s website at https://www.dairyofdistinctionawards.com/.
