A Lewistown woman faces charges stemming from a vehicle accident late last week.  Lewistown Borough Police were called to the scene of the mishap on Spring Street near the intersection of Spanogle Avenue just before 5:00 am last Friday.  Police say an auto driven by 30-year-old Jolene Sechrist struck a parked car.  The investigation determined Sechrist was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, and the vehicle she was driving had been stolen.  She was arrested and charged with D-U-I and theft.

State Senator John Eichelberger (R-Blair) has weighed in following Governor Tom Wolf’s recent budget address.  Wolf’s $33.2 billion General Fund budget for Fiscal Year 2018-19 includes a $1.2 billion (3.7 percent) increase in state spending from the current fiscal year. Eichelberger feels the governor proposed taxes and fees that would hurt Pennsylvanians, while focusing his comments on what he called the bloated bureaucracy of public education and the state-owned universities. The State Senate Appropriations Committee will hold a three-week series of Departmental Budget Hearings beginning February 20th.  Pennsylvania’s current fiscal year ends on June 30th.
