The Mifflin County Regional Police Department has seen an increase in the number of motorists failing to stop for the flashing red lights of a school bus.  Buses on Route 655 in Brown and Union Townships are experiencing a high percentage of violations, including East and West Main Street in Belleville.  Motorists who fail to stop for the flashing red lights of a school bus are committing a crime, and putting children at risk of serious bodily injury or death.  Regional Police, in cooperation with the Mifflin County School District, is dedicated to the safety of students. Motorists should exercise caution near school buses and in school zones, and eliminate distractions inside the vehicle.  If you observe a violation, you are encouraged to obtain the license plate number and general description of the vehicle and the operator. Violations should be reported to the Mifflin County Communication Center at 717-248-9607.
